Since 1989 Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi has offered an intensive “summer stock” type of theater training program for young people between the ages of 8-17 years. For four weeks the young actors work with a three directors and staff interns, learning the music, book and dance numbers for a full, junior version of a Broadway musical theatre production that is performed on stage at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center at the close of the fourth week of the workshop. Participants also learn about theatre etiquette, creating a character, vocal interpretation, artistic expression and working as a team to create a live theatrical production under the direction of a staff of professionals in a disciplined, safe and nurturing environment. Enrollment is limited in order to provide your child(ren) with the most impactful educational experience, allowing one-on-one interaction and an opportunity to shine on stage!

We know that our kids have missed milestones in school, outside activities and connection with family and friends during the Covid epidemic, so it is with GREAT pleasure that ARTS Summer Musical Theatre Workshops for Kids announces that we are announcing NEW DATES for the 2024 summer camp production of GUYS AND DOLLS, JUNIOR. Complete registration fee is due on June 17* and a detailed email will be sent out to all parents the week prior to the first day of camp.

Guys and Dolls JR. is an adaptation of the show considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Its namesake ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950, and won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Frank Loesser’s brassy, immortal score and witty book makes Guys and Dolls JR. a perennial crowd pleaser.
Set in Damon Runyon’s New York City, Guys and Dolls JR. follows gambler, Nathan Detroit, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest crap game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown. Guys and Dolls JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong.
The large cast features both a variety of ensemble and star roles. There are ample opportunities to expand the cast by adding Hot Box Girls, gangsters, missionaries and city dwellers.
